Smart and Just Policies

Smart & Just Policies

Our students’ job is to learn. Ours is to make sure they can.
Our democracy will flourish only when we ensure every school is fully funded, every child is treated with dignity, and every learner can pursue their passion. Here’s how we get there.
We must pass laws and policies that push forward the arc of justice–laws that protect all children's access to a great public education, regardless of age, background, need, or zip code.

Every Student Succeeds Act

The Every Student Succeeds Act mandates that the people who know students best—their educators, families, communities—can shape their future. Now it’s time to make sure lawmakers and policy leaders hear us, and help us make our schools exceptional.

Quality Teaching & Learning

In addition to providing resources to support educators throughout their career, AEA advocates for policies that: Promote a statewide systemic approach to quality teaching and learning, including highly effective educator preparation programs and certification, professional development, mentoring and induction, career development pathways, and compensation structures; promote equitable access to social-emotional learning for all students through curriculum and training for educators; and recognize educators as professionals and ensure them the autonomy to deliver a flexible curriculum and make instruction-based decisions to meet the needs of their students.

Full Education Funding

Since our founding in 1892, AEA has been a champion for education funding in Arizona. Quality public schools require stable and equitable funding in order to ensure student success.

Fair Employment Rights

As a labor union, AEA advocates for workers' rights, including policies that respect educators as professionals, create healthy and safe working and learning environments, and treat educators fairly and equitably.

Safe & Stable Learning Environments

All students have a right to a public education in a safe and stable learning environment. When students feel that they are not welcome or safe, their ability to learn and thrive is diminished. We can create schools where every student can learn, regardless of their skin color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ability.
