Big news from Tucson. On Wednesday evening, the Tucson Education Association held an all-member meeting and unanimously passed an official strike ready resolution.

The resolution doesn't mean that TEA has any immediate plans to go on strike. Being strike-ready doesn't mean a strike is imminent. It's about a long-term commitment to build organization and power.

TEA members recognize that a powerful opposition is determined to destroy public education in this state. They see the urgent need to protect our public schools and improve working conditions, pay, and benefits for educators. And they are ready to build the capacity that will be needed to take direct, disruptive action to save our state's public schools.

There are four pillars of being strike ready:

  • Reaching majority and then supermajority status
  • Improved communication structures, including a site rep at every site
  • The ability to organize and win around issues at the site and district level
  • Building community support

You read the full resolution below. Congratulations, TEA -- let's go!
