Show Your Union Power on May Day

On May 1, workers and families will rally, march, and take action across our state and country to demand a nation that puts workers over billionaires.

On May Day 2026, many union educators will be rallying to demand justice and fairness for working people in a collective Day of Action. Together, we will flex our power — rallying, marching, and taking action to demand a country that puts workers over billionaires.

Many local unions are organizing walk-ins, stand-outs, or other ways to show their power. Want to get involved with May Day but not sure where to start? Here are some options to flex your muscles. 💪

  • SHARE YOUR STORY ONLINE: Post on social media about the reality of teaching in Arizona — and how your union membership helps to protect your basic rights.
  • WEAR RED TO SHOW YOUR POWER. Wear your #RedForEd or local union shirt starting on Wednesday, April 29. The more people participate, the more we show our collective power.
  • CONNECT WITH A COLLEAGUE. Schedule a time to talk with one of your non-union colleagues about the value of union membership — and what it means when we all stand together.
  • JOIN AN EXISTING MAY DAY EVENT: Check out the May Day movement’s event map (MAYDAYSTRONG.ORG) to find a location near you. In Phoenix, the May Day Coalition is holding a massive 5 PM rally that is open to all workers and designed to be accessible for those with traditional work schedules.
  • ORGANIZE A WALK-IN, STAND-OUT, OR BRIDGE TAKEOVER: Organize with your union colleagues to hold a visible demonstration before or after school to make your voices heard. If you host or join an event, talk to your AEA organizer about collecting signatures to get voucher reform on the ballot.
