March4Schools Day of Action Plans |

The AEA March4Schools Day of Action built momentum throughout Arizona for citizens to unite behind our public schools. Thousands participated in community outreach actions from Sedona to Nogales and Parker to Sierra Vista. These energized teachers, parents, school employees, and citizens left ready for the next steps of the March4Schools movement to hold legislators accountable, pass the sales tax, and educate voters prior to the fall elections when a new legisature, governor, and superintendent of public instruction will be elected.
East Valley and Mesa Locals
- Casa Grande Elementary EA: Teachers made hundreds of phone calls emphasizing the need for citizen participation in government beginning with voter registration and applying for vote-by-mail ballots. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Coolidge EA: Phone banking to legislators to express the approval or disappointment voters feel regarding how much their legislators support or don't support public education. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Mesa EA: Over 300 citizens attended the Rally in the Park - a picnic, rally and phone-in where 3,000 phone calls were made to legislators.
- Mesa ESPA: Joined with Mesa EA for the Rally in the Park.
- Chandler EA: 600 citizens attended the Rally at Tumbleweed Park - parents, staff and administrators got together to share information about current legislative actions with special guest Penny Kotterman, candidate for Superintendent of Public Schools.
- Tempe: 300 attended the Rally at Kiwanis Park - a celebration of public education that helped increase awareness about what the legislature is doing.
- Kyrene EA: Joined with Tempe for the Rally at Kiwanis Park.
- Higley EA: 400 participated in an event where voter education was conducted by helping people register to vote, passing out voting records of current legislators and presenting pro-education candidates.
- Apache Junction EA: A gathering at Apache Junction High School of three dozen employees offered leaflets and demonstrate support for district schools.
Phoenix Metro Locals
- Phoenix Union High School CTA: About 200 attended the Phoenix Union Board meeting wearing M4S Day of Action black t-shirts and about 30 of them rode the light rail after the meeting. Participants wore their March4Schools t-shirts to strike up conversations with other light rail riders to discuss the impact the legislature is having on public schools. The Phoenix Union Board was presented with t-shirts.
- Phoenix Union High School CEA: Organized the event with the Phoenix Union CTA.
- Madison District CTA: Madison March for Education Awareness - members, friends and families marched through the Madison community to help raise awareness about how cuts to education funding are affecting public school students and employees. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Glendale Elementary EA: 181 community members attended the Unity Rally - a rally at Murphy Park designed to bring the Glendale community together to support public education and the Glendale Elementary Override Election. The marched around the main library and took walking packets and walk lists to knock on the doors of voters promoting the March 9 override and distributing legislators' voting records on education issues.
- Glendale Union EA: Gathered to make phone calls to parents, community leaders and legislators to discuss the current and future status of school budgets. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Alhambra EA: 24 ADEA members joined Glendale EA at the Rally in the Park.
- Cartwright EA: Every school site in the district organized a door to door walks to educate voters about the importance of contacting their legislators. Voting records were distributed and voters were asked to call the governor. (Participating levels not yet reported, but initial reports indicate several hundred participants.)
- Washington District EA: Every school site in the district organized a door to door walks to educate the community about the impact the legislature is having on public schools. (Participation levels are not yet reported, but all 39 schools participated and initial reports indicate over 20 participatants per site. Participation could reach between 700 and 800)
- Creighton EA: Met after school to phone bank and share information in neighborhoods to share information about the cuts with members and call legislators to tell them to support public schools. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
Osborn EA: Cards signed by members from all schools sent to state representatives to help members get in contact with their legislators. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Phoenix Elementary CTA: March on 7th Street - to inform parents and the community about current legislative actions. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Roosevelt EA: Calls to legislators to ask them to support public schools.

- Isaac District EA: Held a social at Garcia's Mexican Restaurant - to bring awareness to the community. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
North Central Locals
- Dysart EA: 100 members and friends marched to promote the override at three different key locations in the Dysart School District.
- Peoria EA: Gathering of school employees and parents to support the override election. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Nadaburg Employee Associaiton: Conducted a letter writing campaign where letters were composed that explain the needs of rural school districts to legislators. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Paradise Valley EA: Many school sites organized a unique action, such as handing out legislative voting records to parents or at door to door neighborhood walks, or hosting meetings where participants will share the effect budget cuts are having on their students, or calling legislators to tell them their actions will have an effect on voters in the primaries, or holding vigils for education at the school flagpole. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Paradise Valley SEA: Joined with Paradise Valley EA to do individual school site activities. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Deer Valley EA: Joined with Paradise Valley EA to do individual school site activities. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
Maricopa West Locals
- Littleton EA: Dozens of attended two joint meetings of district administrators and PTA groups to discuss school budgets and current legislative actions. (Participation levels not yet reported.)
- Agua Fria District EA: Thirteen attended a public event at Goodyear Community Park where information about current legislation will be handed out to the community with contact information for legislators.
- EA of Avondale: Joined with Agua Fria District EA for the public event at Goodyear Community Park.
- Litchfield District EA: Joined with Agua Fria District EA for the public event at Goodyear Community Park.
Southern Locals
- Tucson EA: Over 400 attended the Rally at Reid Park - promoting the role of public schools in the community. 4-6pm. AEA Vice-President Andrew Morrill spoke and the event was covered by all the Pima County major media outlets.
- Sunnyside EA: Organized the Rally at Reid Park with the Tucson EA.
- Amphitheater EA: Nearly 300 attended a rally at Rillito Park and River Walk and another three dozen rallied at Coronado K-8 School - rallies to support public education.
- Flowing Wells EA: Joined in the rallies with Amphitheater EA and Tucson EA.
- Sierra Vista CTA: Movie Premier - a movie was shared with the community that is made up of teachers' responses to questions about the impact the legislature is having on public schools. (Participation levels not yet reported)
- Marana EA: March4Marana - several dozen citizen attended each of the rallies at eight polling sites to display positive messages about Prop. 400. (Participation levels not yet reported but estimated at about 240)
- Professional Educators of Nogales: Nogales educators and community members gathered in support of public schools. (Paricipation levels not yet reported)
- Santa Cruz Valley EA: 65 education supporters attended a gathering focused on gathering petitions to send to the legislature. 265 signatures were gathered.
Northern Locals
- Prescott EA: Just over 100 attened the March at Town Square
- Sedona EA: Held a march in front of Basha's in West Sedona & March in front of IGA Grocery Store in the Village of Oak Creek - to help get the word out about how the legislature is affecting public schools. (Participation levels not yet reported)
Western Locals
- Crane EA: Held a rally at Knox School to relay approval/disapointment to legislators regarding their support of public education. Representative Lynn Pancrazi attended along with about 50 community members and staff.
- Yuma Elementary EA: Joined with Crane EA for the Rally at Knox School.
- Parker Education Association: Thirteen education supporters held signs on street corners in downtown Parker calling on citizens to support public schools and passed out information on how to contact their legislators.
