Help Organize at Your School School teachers and school employees across Arizona are enraged by the punitive attacks on their professions by some legislators. These attacks barely passed during a special session in August when House Speaker Kirk Adams and Senate President Bob Burns slipped them into a deal to balance the state's budget. Legislative leaders were angry that teachers, parents, and school employees had effectively stopped them from including massive cuts to public schools.
You can help repeal these punitive attacks on teachers and continue our fight for a reasonable state budget that avoids massive cuts to public education by organizing at your school site.
Over the next few months every school staff member in Arizona can have an opportunity to participate in two actions to change the direction Arizona is headed.
- Every school employee can sign a petition asking Governor Brewer and their legislators to repeal these punitive laws.
- Every school employee can help develop a school report documenting the impact of budget cuts to their school, their students, and their jobs.
These two initial actions are the fists steps that will be followed by actions to engage parents in community members through the AEA March4Schools movement aimed at preventing massive cuts to public schools and offering a comprehensive solution to our state's budget crisis.
Every School Site Needs a Site Leader AEA Local Associations throughout Arizona are organizing site leaders to circulate the petition and learn how to participate in the development of school budget cut impact reports. These site leaders build a small team at their site to help, and will eventually reach out to parents and the community with the support of the AEA March4Schools movement.
