AEA Releases 2020 Legislative Report Card

Phoenix, AZ – June 3, 2020 – The Arizona Education Association released its 2020 Legislative Report Card for the 54th Arizona Legislature, 2nd session, which grades state legislators on key bills that significantly impact our students and Arizona’s public school employees. See how legislators stacked up on education issues this past legislative session at arizonaea.org/reportcard.

“Since the #REDforED movement, educators have become increasingly aware of the role politics play in impacting their work in our public schools,” says AEA President Joe Thomas. “With questions around schools reopening and the COVID-19 health crisis, Arizonans are even more focused on policy makers' decisions on the state budget, revenue, and tax cuts. AEA’s legislative report card is another tool provided by the association to inform Arizona voters about how their elected officials are voting on education issues.”

AEA policy positions are driven by the mission and values of our organization: Keeping the Promise of Quality Public Education for every child in Arizona. AEA strives to ensure that the teaching profession is held in high esteem by society and that education support professionals are viewed as valuable partners in student achievement.

This report card summarizes the voting record of current state senators and representatives on 2020 key House Bills (HB) and Senate Bills (SB) that affect public education policy and funding. 2019 grades were included to determine the overall session grade for this report card.
