National Board Certification®
A National Board certificate is a credential attesting to the fact its recipients have been assessed against those standards by their peers and have been found to be highly accomplished, making sound professional judgments about student learning, and acting effectively on those judgments.  Established and overseen by the independent, non-profit, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), it is a voluntary process by which teachers seek advanced certification via a rigorous, six-month to three-year long assessment of their performance and knowledge.

National Board Certification Funding
Through a grant from the Arizona Department of Commerce and the Governors Office, funding will be provided for 100 teachers working in state-funded, all-day kindergarten schools to pursue National Board Certification.  Teachers must pay the National Board processing fee and the Arizona K-12 Center will pay the candidate application fee.  Teachers are not required to repay the fee as long as they complete the full National Board Certification process and teach in a state-funded, all-day kindergarten school the year following completion of the assessment.

National Board Certification Scholarship
The AEA Teacher Development Fund offers scholarships to teaching professionals who pursue National Board Certification, the highest professional achievement in teaching.  Applicants are encouraged to utilize all available financial resources to offset their National Board Certification fees.

Apply to Be a Candidate
All application materials and instruction are online but do not apply before checking with the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) to see if fee subsidies are still available.
